The watch
This Citizen Cosmotron immediately stands out. The dial has a deep blue, almost liquid texture that shifts with the light, giving it a sense of constant movement even at rest. Combined with the sharp applied indices and the bold, faceted crystal, it feels unapologetically 70s in the best way.
This example is true new old stock and comes exactly as it would have decades ago, complete with the original hang tag, price tag, and Citizen plastic bag. Finding one in this state is getting rare, especially with a dial this strong.
The case is clean and sharp, with only the slightest traces from long-term storage. On the wrist it has real presence without feeling oversized, and the integrated bracelet completes the design properly. The watch runs well and the quickset works as it should.
Details
The Cosmotron sits in that short-lived transition period where brands experimented before quartz took over. Instead of a traditional mechanical or quartz setup, it uses an electronically controlled balance. The result is a smooth sweeping seconds hand, closer to a mechanical watch, but powered by a battery.
No winding, no wearing to keep it alive. Just a push of modernity from the 70s.
At the time, Citizen positioned the Cosmotron alongside high-end models, comparable in price to a King Seiko. It was not an entry-level experiment, but a serious piece of technology wrapped in a very confident design.
