The watch
Beautiful Seiko Chronos from 1983 in new old stock condition. This golden dress watch is in immaculate condition, with its original hang tag still attached. The gold case is made from gold plated stainless steel (SGP). The case, crystal and dial are all in mint condition, though the case shows very faint discoloration around the crown.
Details
The Seiko 8121 is a compact quartz movement introduced in the early 1980s, commonly found in models like the Seiko Chronos series. It is a single quartz caliber designed for slim, minimalist dress watches, with an emphasis on reliability and simplicity.
The 8121 features time-only functionality — hours, minutes, and a central seconds hand, with no date or day complications. It includes a hacking function for precise time setting and is powered by a standard button cell battery. Accuracy is typically within ±15 seconds per month, in line with Seiko's standard quartz performance for that era.
Due to its thin profile and straightforward design, the 8121 was often used in sleek, ultra-thin case designs, reflecting the elegant and understated aesthetics of early 1980s quartz dress watches.
