The watch
An exceptional Seiko Cronos from the late 50’s with a fresh service. The beautiful crosshair dial immediately drew our attention and made this piece a natural addition to the collection. This piece makes an excellent dress watch, with its thin profile and 35mm case size.
The case and crystal are in unused condition, while the caseback displays light marks from previous opening. The dial and hands show some patina, please see the pictures.
Even though it was never used, the watch was fully serviced by a professional watchmaker in March 2026. The service included complete disassembly, cleaning, lubrication, and reassembly. The movement is running perfectly.
Details
The Seiko Caliber 54 is a hand-wound mechanical movement developed by Daini Seikosha in the late 1950s and used primarily in early Cronos models. It typically features 21 jewels, operates at 18,000 vibrations per hour, and offers a power reserve of approximately 40–45 hours.
Most examples are configured with a small seconds display and incorporate Seiko’s Diashock shock protection system. Produced for a relatively short period, the Caliber 54 reflects Seiko’s move toward more refined and higher-grade domestic movements at the end of the 1950s. The early King Seiko models were based on the Cronos movement.
