The watch
Seiko Lord Marvel from 1976 in excellent condition. The stainless steel case retains its sharp lines and mirror-polished finish, showing only light signs of wear and a few scratches around the crown. The caseback has some visible damage from a past opening, but remains fully intact with its original commemorative engraving.

The dial is exceptionally well preserved with clean applied indices and no visible patina, something rarely seen on this model, as most examples have aged considerably over the decades. The domed acrylic crystal has a few tiny scratches visible under close inspection, but remains very clean overall. The watch is paired with a black leather crocodile strap that complements the understated design perfectly.

The caseback carries a special Japanese corporate engraving commemorating the 30th anniversary of Seiko Instruments. It was presented by Nichitsuko Trading Co., Ltd., most likely as a commemorative gift to employees or business partners. These engraved domestic-market Seikos add an extra layer of provenance and reflect Japan’s distinctive corporate gift culture of the 1970s and 1980s.

Details
This watch is powered by the hand-wound Seiko caliber 5740C, a high-beat movement operating at 36,000 beats per hour. It features the characteristic oversized crown for effortless winding and a clean no-date layout that highlights the minimalist aesthetic of the Lord Marvel line.

The movement runs accurately and the watch remains historically correct overall. As one of Seiko’s early high-beat models and long discontinued, the Lord Marvel has become increasingly difficult to find in this condition.

History and importance of the Seiko Lord Marvel
Introduced in the late 1950s, the Seiko Lord Marvel played an important role in Seiko’s rise as a serious technical innovator in mechanical watchmaking. The later 5740-series models became especially significant after the introduction of the high-beat caliber 5740C in the late 1960s. Operating at 36,000 beats per hour, it doubled the frequency of most standard mechanical watches of the era and offered improved precision and a noticeably smoother sweep of the second hand.

The Lord Marvel is widely regarded as the foundation for Seiko’s later high-beat developments, including the King Seiko and Grand Seiko lines. With its restrained design, advanced movement, and historical importance, it remains one of the most respected vintage Seiko models among collectors today.

Please note
Due to international wildlife regulations (CITES), we may not be able to ship the crocodile strap outside the EU. If you are ordering internationally, please contact us before purchase to discuss alternative strap options.
