The watch
The Seiko SNXJ is a true classic. Most people know the silver 89 first, followed by the two tone 92 and the gold 94. This SKXJ90, with its two tone finish and silver dial, is by far the rarest of the series.

A small but interesting detail: in American Psycho, Patrick Bateman, played by Christian Bale, wears this exact model. Many assume it was a Rolex Datejust, but Rolex did not want the brand associated with a character like Bateman. As a result, the production used the Seiko SKXJ90 instead. A subtle detail, but one that has given this reference a bit of cult status over the years.

This example is in excellent condition and has just been fitted with a brand-new mineral crystal. There are minor signs of use on the case and bracelet, as to be expected, but nothing distracting. Please refer to the photos for a clear impression. Overall, it presents very well.

The case measures 36mm, a classic size that wears comfortably on most wrists. Inside runs the reliable Seiko 7S26 automatic movement, keeping good time. The day display is bilingual, showing either English or Spanish. A compact, well proportioned automatic with a strong design and a bit of film history attached to it.

Details
This model was produced in three phases, the earliest version (reference 7009-3110) was produced in the 80’s and 90’s. After that, Seiko released an updated version which was the 7S26-3110 with the rock solid 7S26 movement. The third iteration (officially named SNXJxx) was the 7S26-0500, which has a transparent caseback.  This also made the case a bit thicker, so if you like a thin case to stuff under your cuff, this 7S26-3110 is the one you’re looking for.

The ‘5’ in Seiko 5 stands for 5 principles or features: automatic winding, a day/date display, water resistance (however, please don’t go swimming wearing this watch), a recessed crown and a durable case and bracelet.
