The watch
The Seiko SKXJ - a clear nod to the Rolex Datejust, much like the Mazda Miata echoed British sports cars of the ‘70s—similar style, lower cost, and vintage soul. This discontinued model is increasingly hard to find.
In very good condition, with only light signs of wear on the case, bracelet, and crystal. Overall, it’s a clean and well-kept example.
Though not vintage by age, its design lineage traces back to 1979. It features a 36mm stainless steel case and the reliable 7S26 automatic movement, losing just 4 seconds per day. The day window offers bilingual display in English or Spanish.
Additional information
This model was produced in three phases, the earliest version (reference 7009-3110) was produced in the 80’s and 90’s. After that, Seiko released an updated version which was the 7S26-3110 with the rock solid 7S26 movement. The third iteration (officially named SNXJxx) was the 7S26-0500, which has a transparent caseback. This also made the case a bit thicker, so if you like a thin case to stuff under your cuff, this 7S26-3110 is the one you’re looking for.
The ‘5’ in Seiko 5 stands for 5 principles or features: automatic winding, a day/date display, water resistance (however, please don’t go swimming wearing this watch), a recessed crown and a durable case and bracelet.
