The watch
Seiko Sportsman from August 1962 in new old stock condition. The case and acrylic crystal remain sharp and unpolished, preserving the original lines. The silver sunburst dial is exceptionally clean, with only the slightest signs of age visible on close inspection. An outer minute track formed by small raised dots frames the dial, adding subtle depth while maintaining its restrained design.
Slim dauphine hands and the balanced layout give the watch a refined, understated presence. Powered by a hand wound movement, it represents the clean, practical design language of early 1960s Seiko. The slim profile allows it to sit neatly under a cuff. It is fitted with a new crocodile embossed Seiko leather strap.
The watch was fully serviced in December 2025 by a professional watchmaker, including complete disassembly, cleaning, lubrication and reassembly. It runs as it should and has been tested for consistent timekeeping performance.
Details
The Seiko Sportsman line was introduced in the early 1960s as a practical, everyday mechanical watch, positioned between dress models and Seiko’s higher grade offerings. It reflects the restrained design language of the period, with clean dials and balanced proportions.
Powered by the hand wound Caliber 362, it beats at 18,000 vibrations per hour and is known for its straightforward construction and reliability. A simple, honest movement from an era when Seiko was rapidly refining its in house mechanical production.
